ADHD Gift Ideas: What I Would Actually Want This Christmas

From one ADHDer to another, let's make our lives better.

When someone asks me what I want for Christmas, my mind tends to go completely blank. The good ideas usually turn up later.

I was diagnosed with ADHD at 45, so I have had a lot of Christmases to think about this. If you are buying for someone with ADHD, or you have ADHD yourself and want a list to send round the family, here is what I would genuinely be pleased to unwrap. Some are from my own shop, some are not, and none of them are a hint that the person needs fixing.

Gifts that take a job off their plate

For me, the nicest presents are the ones that quietly remove a little bit of friction. A spare phone charger. A key finder. A really good travel mug, because my tea goes cold on every surface in the house.

These are not exciting on paper. But anything that means one less thing to lose, forget or go looking for is, for me, a proper treat.

Gifts for the newly diagnosed

If someone close to you has just been diagnosed as an adult, it can be a lot to take in. For me there were a lot of feelings at once, and a long stretch of trying to make sense of it all.

Writing my story down was one of the things that helped me most. That is why I made the My Story Journal, with 30 guided prompts like "A day my brain felt like a storm", "A label I was given that didn't fit" and "Three things my brain is brilliant at". Not homework, no right answers.

I also wrote about those first months in my post on being diagnosed with ADHD at 45.

A planner that will not make them feel behind

Speaking for myself, a dated diary is the one present that makes my heart sink a little. Every blank week becomes a small reminder of the days I missed. It is not that the gift is unkind. It just is not built for my weather.

Undated pages work much better for me. The Storm Day Daily Planner starts with ONE thing rather than a list of twenty, and the Weekly Reset Planner can be started on any day of any week.

Something for December itself

Christmas is a lot for an ADHD brain. The lists, the dates, the noise, the money and the hundred tiny jobs. If the person you are buying for runs Christmas in their house, the Storm Proof Christmas Planner might be the most practical present on this list. It is undated, so it works every year.

It is a download, so it arrives straight away, which is handy if you are reading this a bit later than you meant to. I know the feeling. I wrote more about how I get through December.

Something cosy to wear

On the days the storm is loud, there is a lot to be said for a soft hoodie and a cup of tea. I made The ADHD Teacup Logo Hoodie with the rainbow storm teacup on it, in black, white or heather grey.

There is a tee too, for anyone who wants to wear the storm with pride.

Both are made to order with free UK postage, and the last order date for Christmas delivery is 14 December 2026.

The gift of being understood

This one costs nothing. Some of the best moments I have had with my family came from a calm conversation about why I react the way I do. If that is something your family has been wanting, the Why I React Like This cards and the Living With My Storm family guide were made for exactly that. I wrote more about it in my post on explaining ADHD to family.

Still stuck?

I put together a full Christmas gift guide with everything in one place.

From one ADHDer to another, whatever you choose, the thought really does count. Especially when it is a thought someone with ADHD remembered to have in time.

My lived story. Not advice, not therapy, not medical guidance.
