Why I call it a storm in a teacup
From one ADHDer to another, let's make our lives better.
People ask me why the shop is called The ADHD Teacup. The honest answer is that it is the best way I have found to describe what goes on in my head.
My brain is busy and non stop. It is like having 500 tabs open in a browser and trying to read them all at once. Small things can whip up a huge storm in there, fast and loud and all at once. To anyone watching, it can look like a fuss over nothing. A storm in a teacup. From the inside, it is a full blown storm, squeezed into a space that was never big enough to hold it.
For a long time that storm ran me. It spilled over the sides of the cup and onto the people I love. I did not have the words for it, and neither did they.
The same storm has a good side too. It is why I am at my best under pressure. It is why I spot patterns other people miss and come at problems from angles nobody else tried. The energy is real. It just needed somewhere to go.
So the teacup is not a joke at my own expense. It is a picture of both sides of the same brain. The chaos and the power, in one small cup.
This is my story, not advice. If any of it sounds like your teacup too, you are in good company.
My lived story. Not advice, not therapy, not medical guidance.
